*IOWA testing will be finishing up this week. We will be testing on Monday and Tuesday.
*Behavior charts did not go home this Friday. Instead, they will go home with students on Monday. *Fall Break is September 25-29th. Look at what we are learning this week: Math: We will be continuing on with our multiplication unit. The students have learned four ways to solve multiplication problems. We will continue working on mastering all four ways (equal groups, repeated addition, array, number line), as well as, working on the properties of multiplication (zero property, identity property, commutative property, and associative property) Reading: Over the next couple of weeks, we will be working with five more third grade standards. Through a variety of texts, we will identify the different story elements present (plot, setting, and theme) and then work on comparing and contrasting these elements between texts. Writing: Students are working on the revising and editing steps in the writing process. We will be looking at certain things that our favorite authors do in their stories, that we can add to our stories too. Our class is getting really excited to publish and share these stories with one another. Science: We are finishing up our science unit of rocks and minerals this week! Students will be working on identifying rocks and minerals by describing their physical attributes (color, luster, hardness, etc.). Grammar: Concrete and Abstract nouns Context Clues

*IOWA testing will begin on Thursday, September 14. *There will be no homework or spelling words this week due to our shortened week and testing. However, please encourage your students to continue to read every night at home. *Behavior charts went home on Friday- please look over them, sign, and return on Wednesday. Look at what we are learning this week: Math: We will be continuing on with our multiplication unit. The students have really been catching on quick to using equal groups to show multiplication, and they seem to enjoy using our fun math manipulatives this past week too. We will be learning more ways to show multiplication, as well as, working on the properties of multiplication (zero property, identity property, commutative property, and associative property) Reading: Over the next couple of weeks, we will be working with five more third grade standards. Through a variety of texts, we will identify the different story elements present (plot, setting, and theme) and then work on comparing and contrasting these elements between texts. Writing: Last week the students identified the personal narrative they would be taking all the way through the writing process for our first published piece. They were able to meet with a writing partner to get some feedback, as well as, take any BIG moments they had and stretch them out into smaller ones with a lot of details. Science: We have moved into our first science unit of the year: rocks and minerals! Students will be working on identifying rocks and minerals by describing their physical attributes (color, luster, hardness, etc.). Grammar: Concrete and Abstract nouns Context Clues |
