Take a look at what we are learning this week: Math: We are continuing our unit on fractions this week, and partitioning shapes into equal parts. *Keep working with students on multiplication facts 0-10 Social Studies: Now that we have introduced Franklin D. Roosevelt, we are beginning to learn about Eleanor Roosevelt's life this week and her role in expanding people's rights and freedoms within a democracy. Reading: I'm excited to announce that reading will start looking a little different in our classroom this nine weeks. We are working towards starting the Daily 5 method during our reading block to ensure that students are engaged in reading, writing, speaking, and listening the entire time. Something else new: we will be working on a different skill each day of the week and will be repeating this schedule for the next few weeks in our daily 5 activities, as well as in guided reading groups. Here's what that will look like: Monday: Asking/answering questions about a text Tuesday: Describing characters in a story Wednesday: Determining the central message, lesson, or moral in a fable, folktalke, and/or myth Thursday: Finding the meaning of words/phrases in literal and nonliteral context. Friday: Studying the different parts of stories, dramas, and poems. Writing: We are starting our informational writing unit this week. Reading: I'm excited to announce that reading will start looking a little different in our classroom this nine weeks. We are working towards starting the Daily 5 method during our reading block to ensure that students are engaged in reading, writing, speaking, and listening the entire time. I hope everyone had a nice winter break! We had a great start to this third 9 weeks on Thursday and Friday. We have made a lot of progress this year, and I cannot wait to see how much more we will grow from now until the end of this school year.

We are working towards starting the Daily 5 method during our reading block to ensure that students are engaged in reading, writing, speaking, and listening the entire time.
