Our second quarter is quickly coming to an end. Thank you to all of the parents for being so flexible with our inclement weather these past few days--I hope everyone stayed warm!
A few reminders: *December 19th and 20th will be early release days! *Our class holiday party will be on December 20th. If you would like more details on volunteering to help or donating snacks for our party, please let me know! *Our new attendance motto: Attend today. Achieve tomorrow. Please make sure your child is here on time everyday. If possible, please send student with a note if he/she misses a day! Look at what we are learning this week: Math: Students will be working on bar graphs and picture graphs this week. This is such a fun unit for students to survey for data and then turn the information into a graphic representation. We will continue to be working on two-step word problems also. Reading: Students will be diving into stories, poems, and dramas and learning how to refer to them using their specific parts. We will be continuing our Daily 5 reading stations to ensure that all students are engaged in reading, writing, speaking, and listening throughout the week. Writing: Students finished up their research on their European Explorer last week and will be moving along in the writing process with their final piece of writing: a biography. We are excited to see these published pieces and to see how much their writing abilities have grown! Social Studies: We are moving from discussing the different types of productive resources into economics and currency. We will also be locating our 6 majors U.S. rivers and 2 major mountain ranges to revisit our geography unit from the first nine weeks. Grammar: Suffixes, and how we can use them to understand new words
